After reading a news item in The Tribune under headline "50% posts of staff lying vacant in Civil Hospital, Phagwara” published on October 3 in this edition, former Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna has knocked the doors of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) and wrote to its Chairman to take action for the welfare of patients. He said the details in news could be considered as clear violation of human rights of the residents. Khanna asked the PSHRC to take cognizance of the matter.

One held with 3 kg poppy husk

Phagwara: The police have arrested a villager and seized 3 kg of puppy husk from his possession on Sunday night. The accused identified as Kuldip Singh of village Jagjitpur, Phagwara, was nabbed at check-point near the village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

Gold Chain Snatched

Phagwara: Two motorcyclist-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from Dr Bimal Bagga near Hargobind Nagar market, Phagwara on Sunday night. The victim was sitting in his car to go back to his Satnampura residence when the miscreants struck and snatched a gold chain and fled.The police have registered a case.

Kamaljeet DPRO, Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur: Information and Public Relations Officer Kamaljeet Paul on Monday assumed charge as District Public Relations Officer (DPRO), Hoshiarpur. He said he would perform his duty with utmost dedication to disseminate information about welfare schemes, people-oriented policies and programmes of the government through different platforms of print, electronic and social media.

Moga man held for theft

Phagwara: The police arrested a Moga villager on the charge of stealing instruments from a farmer's fields. The accused had been identified as Gurdeep Singh of Rajawal village in Moga. Gurbhej Singh, a resident of Jaffarpur village, had complained to the police that the accused had stolen 11 tillers and one 8-HP engine from his motor in March 2022. A case has been registered.

Seven booked for assault

Phagwara: The police have booked seven villagers including a woman on the charge of assaulting co- villager. Shinda a resident of Chak Bahmannia village complained to the police that the accused attacked him and his mother with a sharp-edged weapon and injured them. A case has been registered.

Workshop on IT techniques

Hoshiarpur: A workshop on latest IT techniques was conducted for BCA students at SD College, Hoshiarpur with support from the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Infomaths, Chandigarh.
