Though politicians and local administration officials have often assured people of addressing the problems of poor road infrastructure and the inconvenience thereof the recent rains have laid bare the false promises. As heavy rains have lashed the region people have been severely inconvenienced due to the deplorable condition of roads.

This correspondent has found several roads in Phagwara in worse conditions, especially following the recent rainfall. The Phagwara-Banga road, railway road, Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road and the Phagwara-Hadiabad road are among the worst affected and have not been repaired for the last two years. Commuters have also reported an increase in the number of mishaps here due to the condition of these roads.

Despite repeated requests, no repair work has been initiated by any political party, said a social activist Vishwamittar Sharma. Though the Central and state governments have announced to provide better infrastructure to people, commuters are battling with bad roads still.

Representatives of several social organisations are taking initiative to temporarily repair these roads themselves. MC Commissioner Anupam Kaler said she had written to the PWD and NHAI to repair these roads.
