Phagwara: Three booked in dowry case
Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have booked three persons – Chetan Arora, a resident of Tulsi Nagar in Hoshiarpur, his father Om Parkash Arora and brother Amit Arora – for torturing a woman for dowry. The complainant, Shruti, a resident of Mohalla Lakhan Pal, Nurmahal, complained to the police that her husband and his parents had been demanding dowry ever since her marriage. Investigating officer Gursharan Singh said a case under Sections 406 and 498-A of the IPC had been registered against the suspects. Further investigations were on. OC
Biker killed in road accident
Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have booked an unidentified person on the charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence and mischief. Investigating officer (IO) Kashmir Singh said Lovpreet Singh, a resident of Tawandi Chaudarian village in Kapurthala, complained to the police that his maternal uncle Manga Ram, a resident of Farid Sarai village falling under the Sultanpur Lodhi police station was returning home from Lohian Khas on January 13. A speeding car bearing registration number DL10CD5153 hit his motorcycle near the railway station. He died in the mishap while his relative suffered serious injuries. A case under Sections 279, 304-A, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC has been registered. OC
Man booked on assault charge
Phagwara: The Bilga police have booked a man on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. Investigating officer (IO) Kulwinder Singh said the suspect had been identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Pati Shagne Wal, Bilga village. Bhalwinder Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the suspect attacked him with a sharp weapon on November 29 at Mao Sahib village. He suffered serious injuries in the mishap. A case under Sections 323 and 325 of the IPC has been registered. OC
50 kg lahan seized, 1 booked
Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have booked a person on the charge of brewing illicit country-made liquor. Investigating officer Avtar Singh said the suspect had been identified as Satnam, alias Satta, a resident of Ismailpur village. Around 50 kg of lahan (raw liquor) was recovered from his possession. The suspect managed to flee from the spot. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered. OC
Next mutation camp today
Phagwara: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jashanjeet Singh held a meeting of the staff and officials of the revenue department on Sunday. The SDM informed the staff that a special camp will now again be held on January 15 to complete pending cases of mutation. Tehsildar Baljinder Singh and Naib Tehsildar Mandeep Singh besides former minister Joginder Singh Maan were also present in the meeting. The SDM instructed the staff to complete their preparatory work earlier so that the people do not suffer.
