Philanthropist Bahadur Singh Sunet honoured for social service
International organisations dedicated to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat — Jagat Punjabi Sabha, Canada, Punjabi Business Professionals Association and Ontario Friend Club — organised a ceremony at Virasat-e-Khalsa, Sri Anandpur Sahib, to honour contributions to society.
It was organised under the leadership of Dr Ajaib Singh Chatha (chairman), Sardul Singh Thiara (president), Dr Santokh Singh Sandhu, and Inderjit Singh Cheema, wherein Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, was the chief guest. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Member Rajya Sabha, and eminent intellectuals, writers, social workers and representatives of other organisations from across the country and abroad who have made outstanding contributions in various fields participated in the ceremony.
On the occasion, Professor Bahadur Singh Sunet of Hoshiarpur, was honoured for his valuable contribution in the field of social service for the last four decades. Through his research work, the great services of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji gained recognition at the international level. He also worked for the strengthening of solidarity, humanity and mutual brotherhood.
He had been involved in blood donation drives regulary when he was a student at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He has donated blood about 65 times and became a source of inspiration for youth. He made his valuable contribution to brighten the lives of hundreds of blind people to make the country free from blindness. He served in the Technical Education Department of Punjab for a long time. After retirement, he made special efforts to provide education to the children of people living below poverty line and to uplift their living standards.
Sunet presented pictures of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji to Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Jagat Punjabi Sabha President Sardul Singh Thiara. A request letter was also submitted to the Punjab Government, in which it was demanded that special efforts be made to spread the concept of service to humanity in the rich cultural heritage of the state and the great services of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji at the international level. He urged that a special campaign be launched by the state government to inform the young generation about their great services.
