The final of Democratic Council Corporate Football Cup was held at the PIMS football ground here on Sunday. The tournament was organised by an NGO, Democratic Council. Of the six teams which played out for the finals, the PKF team won the tournament.
The NGO organised the football league with 12 corporates of the city for which the matches were held from February 9 to February 16. During the finals at the PIMS football ground, three teams — PKF, St Soldier and Football Kickers Academy — fought to survive the tournament in penalty shootouts. The other three teams — Patel Hospital, Tagore Hospital and Sarv Parkash —had qualified for the semifinals on February 16.
The PKF team won the league beating Tagore Hospital with highest score of the tournament of 7-1.
Municipal Corporation Jt Commissioner Rajiv Verma was the chief guest at the event. He presented silver medals to the runner-up team and gold medals to the winning team. PKF Managing Director Alok Sondhi congratulated the PKF team for its victory and said while the PKF had a cricket team, now they will build up a team for football in their company to retain the Cup.
Directors of Tagore Hospital Dr Nipun Mahajan, Dr Amit Mahajan and Dr Snigdha Mahajan appreciated the efforts of their team to win silver medal and committed to remain associated with the Cup for future. Players were given participation certificates and a plant of Moringa tree as a token of participation.
