Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, which has carved a niche in manufacturing world-class coaches for premier trains won another laurel, as one of its coach products — MEMU with 3 phase electrics — was pressed into service in the Kashmir valley. The train was virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday on the newly electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Sangaldan route making it environment friendly.
The coaches of 3 Phase MEMU have stainless steel body designed for a service speed of 110kmph. The coaches are equipped with Ethernet based Train Control & Management system (TCMS) which offers precise control, besides, a Rescue Drive Mode (RDM) feature which limits the speed of the train in case of a failure in train network. The driving coach has an aerodynamic nose front with air conditioned driver cabin and ergonomically designed driver desk. Being low maintenance is the key feature of these coaches.
The 3 Phase MEMUs not only excel in technical brilliance but also provide excellent amenities to passengers. Each coach has an aesthetic interior with FRP paneling, cushioned seats, wider windows, sliding doors and mobile charging sockets. Energy efficient LED lights have been installed in every coach with 50 per cent of them functioning as emergency lights. GPS based Public Address & Passenger Information System (PAPIS) comprising screen displays and loud speakers in each coach helps passengers keep track of upcoming stations. To ensure a secure travelling experience, CCTV surveillance system with a networking feature has also been installed. Two lavatories with bio toilets are available in each coach. Each driving coach can carry up to 226 passengers while trailer coaches can carry up to 325 passengers. RCF has already manufactured 504 MEMU coaches and they are being used by the Indian Railways.
