Acting under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Tura, and supervised by SP (Detective) Prabhjot Singh, DSP (Sub-Division) Deepkaran Singh and Inspector Sahirindar Singh, SHO Kotwali, the police team traced the chain of events that led to the killing of Tarandeep Singh, a resident of Kaisarpur.

The case was registered on May 1, under Section 105 and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kotwali police station, Kapurthala. The complainant, Jasbir Kaur, mother of the deceased, reported that her son had left for work at a salon in Kartarpur on April 28, but never returned. Days later, information came that he had been murdered and his body dumped near Kali Bein at Bhawanipur village.

Investigators obtained and analysed the call details of the victim and his associates, which led them to suspect Deepak, son of Harmesh Lal, a resident of Pada village, Jalandhar. He was arrested on May 30 and during interrogation, revealed the involvement of Harnek Singh, a resident of Kot Karar Khan, Kapurthala, who was formally booked in the case on June 2.

Subsequently, further testimony from the complainant pointed towards the complicity of Sajanpreet Singh, son of Sarwan Singh, a resident of Budhewal, Kapurthala, a close associate of Deepak. When questioned, Sajanpreet confessed that the trio had often consumed drugs together. On the day of the incident, Tarandeep allegedly collapsed after excessive drug use. Fearing exposure, Deepak and Sajanpreet placed the body in a Swift car (registration number Punjab-08-CB-3009) and abandoned it in the waters of Kali Bein near Bhawanipur.
