With the Republic Day celebrations approaching, the Jalandhar police have ramped up their efforts to ensure public safety through targeted drives and enhanced security operations.

A special drive against eve-teasing and traffic violations was carried out between January 10 and 14 near Sai Dass School and HMV College under the supervision of ACP-Central Nirmal Singh. The efforts focused on areas frequently visited by students, with the goal of curbing misbehavior and enforcing traffic laws.

During the drive, 300 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 38 challans being issued for various violations. Four motorcycles were also seized. Common infractions included triple riding, riding without helmets, underage driving, vehicles without number plates and the use of modified motorcycles.

Simultaneously, a search operation was also conducted at the Jalandhar bus stand and nearby areas to strengthen public security. Overseen by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, this large-scale operation saw the deployment of 100 police personnel, anti-sabotage teams and advanced surveillance tools such as CCTV cameras and sniffer dogs.

Moreover, passengers, buses and luggage were checked to identify illegal items, including prohibited plastic kite threads, and to prevent any security threats. Identification documents were checked as part of the comprehensive effort to maintain safety.

The CASO also focused on crowd management, particularly during peak hours, with the police working closely with the transport authorities to ensure smooth operations.

Police officials said these operations reflected the police force's dedication to proactive security and discipline enforcement, particularly for women, students and commuters. By tackling both violations and potential threats, the police aimed to create a safer environment for the public during the Republic Day celebrations, they added.
