Police, MC bulldoze illegally built structure of three drug smugglers
In alignment with Punjab government’s zero-tolerance policy on drugs, the Commissionerate of Police in coordination with the municipal corporation today demolished an illegal structure of three drug smugglers allegedly built using drug money in Model House area under the jurisdiction of Division Number 5 police station, as part of the ongoing initiative ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said that the MC had received information regarding an illegal construction on government land in the area of Model House. The structure was reportedly built by three known drug smugglers — Lakhwir Kaur, alias Rekha, wife of Sandeep Singh (currently lodged in jail) and Sandeep Kumar, alias Juga, and Suraj, presently out on bail. All accused are residents of Tara Wali Street, Model House, Jalandhar. The property was reportedly built using proceeds from their illegal drug trade.
In a prompt and coordinated action, the MC and police teams today demolished the illegally constructed house, sending a clear message that drug-related activities would not be tolerated in Jalandhar.
In addition, she highlighted that the accused were habitual offenders, with a total of eight cases registered against them under the NDPS Act and other criminal sections of the IPC. Lakhwir Kaur had two cases registered against her, while Sandeep Kumar and Suraj had three cases each registered against them.
As part of this operation, earlier also the authorities had taken action at Bhargo Camp and Rama Mandi area, where illegal constructions linked to notorious drug traffickers had been demolished. “This crackdown targets not only drug peddlers, but also illegal structures, properties and hideouts that serve as breeding grounds for such criminal activities,” the CP said,
