Police NOC must for opening new malls, offices

In a bid to settle traffic and parking issues in the city, Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma has announced a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring adequate parking at all new buildings, malls and offices.
Unveiling the details of the initiative, Sharma emphasised that the Commissionerate Police was introducing reforms to address the city’s persistent traffic congestion. These reforms are part of a larger effort dubbed ‘crackdown on traffic woes,’ with the primary goal of easing the burden on the public due to insufficient parking in commercial and office spaces.
From now on, obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the police will be mandatory for the opening any mall, office or establishment. This rule will be enforced to ensure the compliance in all public and office spaces.
Sharma said the focus on vehicle parking problems mandated that all commercial establishments must secure an NOC from the police department, confirming the provision of adequate parking spaces. A letter had been issued to relevant departments, detailing the requirements for building construction approvals and NOCs.
Prospective office owners will now be required to submit detailed layouts and site plans, indicating the dedicated parking area, including total parking slots for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers.
For restaurants, bars, hotels, multiplexes and hospitals, the application for an NOC must also include details like seating capacity and the number of rooms or beds.
Sharma said this initiative would streamline vehicular movement and prevent traffic congestion caused by the lack of parking spaces. He asserted that these measures would contribute to creating cleaner and safer roads in Jalandhar.
