A poster of ‘Jai Bheem’, the first-of-its-kind animated feature movie being made on the life of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, was released at Press Club here on Friday.
Produced by Dr Joginder Singh Bhangalia and Sonu Bhangalia and directed by ‘Guru Da Banda’ fame young director Jassi Chana, the 3D film revolves around the life and struggles of the Father of the Indian Constitution who is affectionately known as Babasaheb. The making of the movie is currently underway at a studio named Preetam Film Production in Maqsudan.
Talking to The Tribune, Dr SL Virdi, story writer of the movie, said it was for the first time that an animated movie on Babasaheb was being made. He said the purpose of the movie was to make tell people about Dr Ambedkar’s life and his thinking, which was relevant to every category, whether a farmer, a labourer or a part of any other section of society.
“The story has been outlined after reading all researches, books and other available material on Dr Ambedkar. It depicts all phases of life of Babasaheb, starting from his childhood to difficulties he faced as a student, along with his struggles for the depressed classes, contribution to freedom struggle and the making of modern India”, he said.
Director Jassi Chana said his team was using latest technology and software that compete with the standards of animated studios based in Mumbai. He said the film was expected to hit the screens on April 14 on Babasaheb’s birthday.
On being asked about the trend of animated movies in India, Jassi replied that the graph of animation films was rising fast. He said his earlier animated feature film, which was based on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, was highly appreciated worldwide and that the people loved watching animated characters.
Satnam Chana said the film would bring forth such astonishing historical facts that were not known to many of his followers. It would show what all Dr Ambedkar faced and how major role he played in the abolition of untouchability in the country, he said. Dr Ambedkar was a reformer whose legacy and relevance continued to grow.
