Potholed, damaged Banga road commuters’ bane
Key institutions, establishments situated along this route
The stretch of road starting from Valmiki Temple to Mehli village, popularly known as Banga road, is in a deplorable state, causing inconvenience to daily commuters. The road is riddled with potholes and uneven patches, making it difficult for vehicles to move smoothly.
The condition is particularly alarming as several key institutions and establishments are situated along this route, including marriage palaces and prominent schools, the Vishwakarma Temple and Charitable Hospital, as well as a number of new hotels that have come up in recent years. Despite its growing commercial and social importance, the road remains neglected, forcing residents and visitors to navigate a stretch that has become both unsafe and unsightly.
Local residents complain that frequent minor and major accidents occur due to the poor condition of the road, especially during evening hours and rainy days, when visibility is low. Shopkeepers and school authorities in the area have repeatedly urged the municipal authorities to take immediate remedial action, but their pleas have largely gone unanswered.
Similar conditions prevail in other prominent parts of the city, including Hargobind Nagar, Palahai Road, the area near the Civil Hospital and Hadiabad Road. These localities, once considered among the well-maintained areas in Phagwara, now present a picture of neglect and disrepair.
Despite repeated assurances from the Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, residents allege that no substantial road repair work has been undertaken for months. Citizens are demanding urgent attention to the problem, warning that continued inaction could lead to further deterioration and endanger public safety.
