Prisoner gives cops the slip, arrested a few hours later
A prisoner managed to give the police the slip at the Jalandhar Civil Hospital on Saturday evening while undergoing a medical check-up, though he was arrested after some time.
The fugitive, in custody of the Government Railway Police (GRP), slipped away from officers amid a crowded scene, according to police officials from Division Number 4.
The prisoner had been wanted since 2022 for charges under Sections 379, 411 and 201 of the IPC. He was apprehended by the GRP and was brought to the hospital for the medical examination.
However, as the officers navigated through a heavily crowded area of the hospital, the accused seized the opportunity to push a police officer and flee from custody.
Despite an immediate search operation launched by the police at the hospital and surrounding areas, the prisoner managed to evade arrest in the initial hours. The police from Division Number 4 then registered a fresh case under BNS 262 and intensified their efforts to track him down.
SHO Division Number 4, Hardev Singh, revealed that the prisoner had strategically used the large crowd to his advantage, overpowering a policeman in the process. “He pushed one of the officers and escaped from the hospital. However, by late evening, we arrested him,” Singh said.
