Jalandhar, July 22

Armaan, an employee of a company, got stuck at Sodal Road railway crossing for an hour while he was coming back from his work on Thursday night. He started from his office at around 7 pm and reached home at 9. Reason: Heavy rainfall had flooded Chandan Nagar RUB and the residents had no other way to go, but take another route towards Sodal Road railway crossing. It led to heavy rush at the crossing.

Chandan Nagar RUB remained inundated the entire day which made it impossible for people to cross and reach the destination at right time and early.

Commuters were hassled and they had bad experience. Vicky Kalia, the councillor of Ward No. 64, today handed over a memorandum to the MC Commissioner saying that it was a conspiracy so that his image could be destroyed. “Almost five years have passed since I became a councillor. Nobody had to witness such problem in these five years. Why now? Someone is behind this conspiracy and I have asked the MC Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the matter. He has promised me that he would check,” he said.

Notably, the problem of residents living in several colonies like Shiv Nagar, Preet Nagar, Industrial Area, Dada Colony among others had got resolved with the construction of the bridge five years ago. Otherwise the commuters used to have just one way to reach other side and that was Sodal Nagar railway crossing. The residents would have to wait for hours as the crossing would get closed for nearly 100 times because of passage of trains.

With the construction of the bridge, the residents had heaved a sigh of relief. “But this sudden and major obstruction brought back those memories when we had to wait for hours and hours in long queues for the trains to pass,” said Gagan Chopra, a resident of Shiv Nagar.
