Phagwara, August 9

All members of the Punjab Divyang Action Committee today submitted a memorandum to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jashanpreet Singh, demanding action against a woman employee accused of misconduct. The memorandum was handed over to the Tehsildar’s reader, Avtar Singh, by a delegation led by the committee’s women’s wing president, Davinder Kaur Narur.

The committee alleged that the woman employee of Baba Gadhia Sewa Kendra mistreated Joginder Singh, a 70 per cent disabled individual, and threatened to break his arm. The incident reportedly occurred at window number 2 of the Sewa Kendra. The committee demanded legal action under the Disabilities Act 2016 and requested a review of CCTV footage from the time of the incident.

Speaking to the media, committee leaders stated that the employee’s misconduct was in retaliation for an online complaint lodged by Joginder Singh regarding overcharging. They warned that if action is not taken by August 13, the committee will block GT Road and burn effigies of the Chief Minister and the DGP of Punjab on August 15. They also threatened to show black flags to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during the Independence Day state-level event in Jalandhar.
