Acting swiftly on a complaint regarding electricity theft, the enforcement wing of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) carried out a planned raid and unearthed an illegal tubewell connection of 12.5 BHP capacity in Bajwara village, falling under the Civil Lines area of Hoshiarpur.
According to a departmental spokesperson, the team recovered around 85 metres of black 4-core cable, which had been illegally extended from the LT grip of an approved tubewell connection near the farmer’s land. The cable was tied to bamboo sticks and used to supply power to the motor illegally. Additionally, the motor of the tubewell was also found to be running without proper authorization using a separate 3-core cable.
Despite repeated attempts to contact the consumer, no one appeared at the site. As a result, the enforcement team disconnected the electricity connection on the spot and seized all cables used in the theft. The materials were handed over to the staff of the local distribution sub-division for further action.
A penalty of Rs 2.11 lakh along with a compounding fee of Rs 20,000 has been imposed on the consumer, identified as Charanjit Kaur, a resident of Bajwara, for theft of electricity. An FIR has also been registered at the Anti-Power Theft Police Station to initiate criminal proceedings.
The PSPCL spokesperson added that enforcement teams are actively conducting raids across various areas to curb power theft and ensure accountability.
