Jalandhar: The NCC cadets of PCM SD College for Women lent a helping hand to Civil Hospital team to conduct the pulse polio drive. The project fights polio through a large-scale pulse-polio vaccination programme and a constant monitoring for poliomyelitis cases in the whole nation. In this campaign, the NCC cadets under the guidance of Dr Satjit Kaur, Civil Hospital Medical Officer, and Surinder Saini, UNICEF Observer, and General Secretary, Jalandhar Welfare Society, participated vigorously in administering polio doses to children of age five and below. The cadets visited nearly about 4,500 houses and gave drops to more than 1,000 children. Applauding the cadets for their enthusiasm in the event and appreciating the efforts of the NCC in-charge Lieutenant Priya Mahajan in mobilising the youth for such social causes, Principal Dr Pooja Prashar said the college has always been a frontrunner in shaping a beautiful society by making its students responsible, well-informed and dedicated towards the social concerns.
Swimming Competition organised
The swimmers of Ivy World School have brought elated moment for the school fraternity by winning prizes in the competitions held at the district swimming competition. Manardeep Kaur has triumphed with two gold and two silver medals, Agamdeep Kaur has won two gold medals and one bronze medal. Zara Chaudhary bagged the first position and Ziva Chaudhary stood second in U-12 categories in the Back Stroke Swimming Competition (50 m) held at Police DAV Public School. Zara Chaudhary added another feather to the cap by achieving the second position in District Level 50 m Freestyle Swimming Competition. Lakshya Kumar became the proud recipient of two bronze medals. Girls of Ivy World School have procured a maximum number of medals in Jalandhar district. Principal S Chauhan applauded and congratulated the students for their extraordinary participation.
Interdisciplinary courses at KMV
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has introduced credit-based system in all its postgraduate programmes. Along with this, KMV in a new educational reform has decided to offer inter-disciplinary courses in all postgraduate programmes from session 2022-23. Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the students of the postgraduate courses will have an option to opt for any two inter-disciplinary courses during their programme each in semester-I and semester-III. Interdisciplinary courses that will be offered to the students are Communication Skills in English, Basics of Music (Vocal), Human Rights and Constitutional Duties, Basics of Computer Applications and Indian Heritage: Contribution to the world. This will be in sync with one of the major strategies of National Educational Policy 2020 which aims at giving emphasis on multidisciplinary courses and to end rigid separation among streams. This will give students a chance to polish their communication skills, computer skills and music skills even at postgraduate level. The courses on Human Rights and Constitutional Duties and Indian Heritage: Contribution to the World will help the students to become better citizens and feel proud about the rich heritage of India. These courses will be offered free of cost and college will not be charging any extra fee for them, but the students will be gaining extra credits from these courses in their degree.
Skill course certificate programme
The Commerce Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organised Skilled Course Certificate Programme in Banking, Finance and Insurance (CPBFI) in collaboration with Bajaj FinServ under the guidance of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen and Binoo Gupta, Coordinator of the course, told the purpose of conducting this course was to enhance the employability skills of the students. She told that during the span of 46 days of the online course, the students were given insights into the practical aspects of banking, finance, insurance and interview conduct. The course was divided into four modules comprising communication and workplace skills, overview of retail banking and overview of finance. Overall 49 students benefitted from the programme. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of the team members comprising Meenu Kohli, Head of Department, Binoo Gupta, Incharge Commerce Club and Course Coordinator and Course Incharges – Savita Mahendru and Dr Minakshi Duggal Mehta. Binoo Gupta expressed gratitude to Archana, Head, Training Operations, CPBFI, Kanwaljit Singh, Lead Trainer of CPBFI in Punjab, and others
Plantation drive organised
A plantation drive was organised at St Soldier Nursing Training Institute, Khambra, in which the staff members and students of the college planted saplings in and around the college campus. Principal Neeraj Sethi told that this effort has been made by the students and teachers to reduce the increasing pollution in the environment and to make the environment green. During this, marigold, mango, orange, spider plant, lily flower, daisy, Hibix Azalea, etc. were planted and the students took the responsibility of taking care of them. They said we will have to take care of them by planting more and more saplings and for this there is a need to motivate the young generation a lot because green trees are our future. Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra said trees fulfil thousands of human needs. If there were no trees on earth, then our life would have been impossible, she said.
Yoga Day celebrated
Shiv Jyoti Public School organised various activities during the span of one and a half month. Students and staff members participated in the event with their full zeal and enthusiasm. Surya Namaskar was performed by the students as a regular feature of their daily routine. Rhythmic Yoga was performed by the students under the guidance of Rajni Sharma on the eve of prize distribution function. All students under the guidance of their teacher Zenith were awarded about the benefits of yoga through yoga wall painting and explained them the eight aspects of yoga. Students even participated in Inter-School Yoga Competition held at DAV School Bilga, under the aegis of Jalandhar Sahodaya. They also made Human Pyramids through various yoga postures. Class VIII students performed paper bag making activity based on yoga theme.
Emm Aar International School, Adampur
The 8th International Yoga Day was celebrated under the supervision of Principal Navdeep Vishishta in Emm Aar International School, Adampur, along with students, parents, and group school staff with great enthusiasm. The celebration was graced by the chief guest Varinder Singh Bajwa ADC (Rural Development, Jalandhar. School Chairman Dr Sarav Mohan Tandon, Director Dr Simmi Tandon, and Principal Navdeep Vashishta welcomed him wholeheartedly. The chief guest and management members started the yoga day by lighting the flame. Yoga Expert Ashwani Sandhu shared Yoga Kriyas with everyone. Students demonstrated Surya Namaskars and various asanas. Warm-up exercises were taken and all the students performed sitting and standing asanas, the importance of these was explained simultaneously. The celebration concluded with the speech of the chief guest and the chairman where they highlighted practicing regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration. Overall the event was a success followed by a free blood-sugar camp and refreshments for all. On this occasion CEO Mohit Shinde and various dignitaries from Lions Club, Jay Cee Club, Rotary Club, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Jagriti Club, and Municipal Corporation, Adampur, were present.
Apeejay Institute of Management
The International Day of Yoga was also organized in Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus to acquaint the students and faculty members about the immense benefits of practicing yoga. The celebrations began with an address by Dr Rajesh Bagga, Director, Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus. Dr Bagga highlighted the invaluable benefits of practicing yoga which led to celebration of June 21 as International Yoga Day since 2015. He stated that practicing yoga leads to an increased feeling of well-being, which helps explain why so many people find yoga so addictive. Dr Bagga added that though the benefits of yoga are only perceived to be at the body level, but it helps tremendously in uniting the body, mind and breath. Citing his own example, he mentioned that he was able to improve the vision of his eyes by practicing yoga every day. Dr Bagga advised the consumption of apple cider vinegar, lemon, honey, ginger along with Pranayama and yoga in getting alkaline bodies. He also highlighted the benefits of asanas like the Tree Pose, Mountain Pose, Crescent Moon Anjaneyasana), Half- Boat Posture (Ardha Navasana), Child’s Pose, Arm-Pressing Posture, Cat Pose, Downward Facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukh Savasana), Lotus Pose (Padamasana).
