The 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Hockey Championship started today at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. The event was inaugurated by Sukhdev Singh, Managing Director, AGI Infra Limited. On this occasion, the students of SD Pularwan School presented a magnificent giddha.

In the opening match, hosts Punjab defeated Telangana by a margin of 7-0 and secured three points. For the winning team, captain Ujwal Singh scored two goals, Sukhwinder Singh scored two goals, Harshdeep Singh, Jobanpreet Singh and German Singh scored one goal each and earned three points.

Hockey Madhya Pradesh defeated Uttarakhand 9-1 in the first match. For Madhya Pradesh, Ali Ahmed, Zameer Mohammad scored two, Tushar Pramar, A Khan, Suhail Ali, Parochi Kartikesdal Ahmed, Mohammad Anas scored one each while for Uttarakhand Arpit Kohli scored.

In the second match, Chandigarh defeated Puducherry 9-2. For Chandigarh, Harpreet Singh, Sukhpreet and Komalpreet Singh scored two goals each, while Gurpreet Singh, Gurkirat Singh Hothi and Prabhjot Singh scored one goal each. For Puducherry A Dasan and Gurudutt Gupta scored goals.

In the third match, Maharashtra defeated Himachal Pradesh 5-0. Joseph Etney, Jay Kaile, Karthik, Amin and Sachin scored goals for Maharashtra. In the fourth match, Manipur beat Goa 15-0. Manipur’s U Vidyananda Singh scored five goals and scored the first hat-trick of the championship.
