Officials said the deceased has been identified as Boota Mohammad, a resident of Dhilwan. His family had been searching for him since Thursday after he failed to return home.

Preliminary information suggests that he may have gone near the river for fishing when he slipped and was swept away by the current. While the fishing angle has not been officially confirmed, police officials said that accidental drowning appears to be the likely cause.

Bholath DSP Karnail Singh said an investigation has been initiated based on the statement of the victim’s brother, Gulzar Mohammad. The body has been sent to the civil hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
