“These courses are designed to provide prisoners with professional training, enabling them to establish self-employment and become contributing members of society once again,” said Bhawna Garg. She added that ITI Kapurthala would be responsible for conducting the courses, while the Employment Generation Department would assist prisoners in finding employment opportunities after their release.

The courses will span one year, with the first batch consisting of 24 prisoners enrolled in the plumbing course and 20 in welding. Upon completion, participants will receive certificates recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), which are valid both nationally and internationally.

In addition to the launch of the courses, Garg reviewed the security measures and welfare provisions for prisoners in the jail. She also directed authorities to ensure the continuous health check-up of all inmates.
