Punjab team won a gold medal in 63rd National Open Athletics Championship that was held in Bangalore from August 30 to September 2. It is for the first time that the state team won a gold medal in 4x400 mixed relay game.

The players Jashanpreet Singh, Jagmeet Singh, Twinkle Chaudhary and Gug Kaur, who are all from Jalandhar, were elated after bagging the gold medal.

Their coach Sarabjit Happy is a proud mentor. “What else can I ask for. They have toiled really hard to reach here. My happiness knows no bound. There were several problems during the time of their entry to the games, but, the results have vanished every bad memory,” he said.

The players said they were thankful to their coach who worked really hard on them.

Earlier, the athletic track was not in good shape at all due to which players would suffer injuries too. But, after a new synthetic track was made, things have changed for better, they said.

Jashanpreet Singh (24), who started playing in 2015, has won several medals so far. “My aim in life is to be a great sportsperson and do something for my family and nation. Every sportsperson wishes the same and I am working very hard towards achieving it,” he added.
