A youth from Harsa Mansar town of Punjab died under mysterious circumstances at a hotel in Meelma, situated on the borders of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Angry family members protested by partially blocking the highway demanding action against drug smugglers.
According to information received, Sachin Kumar, son of Sudarshan Kumar, a resident of Harsa Mansar, was staying in a hotel in Meelma with his two friends. He came to the hotel directly from Chandigarh last night.
This morning, his friends informed his family members about the incident from Sachin’s phone. Family members alleged that most hotels in Meelma town are infamous for drug abuse and their son Sachin, had died due to consumption of drugs. Himachal police, however, said that only after the postmortem report is received, can a conclusion be drawn.
Meanwhile, the hotel staff stated that if the deceased had died of drug abuse, then those who were with him should be asked where from he got the drug.
The deceased’s father Sudarshan Kumar alleged that Meelma town of Himachal is infamous for drug smuggling. Many youths have died here before and drugs are continuously supplied to Punjab from here. But the administration has not showing any seriousness in this regard, he alleged.
Mansar’s Sarpanch Anil Thakur and the deceased’s father Sudarshan Kumar demanded strict action against the hotel owners and drug smugglers and increased police patrolling in the area.
