Rains force school closures in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur amid flood risks
Owing to incessant rains, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, ordered that all private and government, elementary and secondary schools in Jalandhar shall remain closed on August 26 (Tuesday). He stated that the orders had been issued since there had been a forecast of more rains and students and teachers were finding it difficult to reach schools. He has asked District Education Officers (elementary and secondary) to ensure that the orders are followed.
District Magistrate Hoshiarpur, Aashika Jain, has declared a holiday on August 26 and 27 in all government and private schools in the district. Jain said that for the last few days, there has been heavy rain in the entire Punjab, including the district, and the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in the coming days as well. Due to continuous rain, many roads leading to schools are flooded, creating difficulties in commuting for students and staff. The District Magistrate said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students and staff. The District Education Officer, Hoshiarpur, has been directed to implement this order.
