Robbers decamp with jewellery worth lakhs in Kapurthala

Five armed men targeted a jewellery shop in Kapurthala’s Sarafa Bazar in early hours on Sunday and decamped with a safe containing gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.

The incident took place around 4 am at the shop located near a bank.

According to preliminary reports, the accused arrived at the spot in a car and held the night watchman, Bahadur, at gunpoint. They then broke open the shutter of Singh Jewellers, owned by Ajay Kumar, and escaped with the shop’s main safe.

Ajay Kumar said the robbers decamped with 50 gm of gold ornaments and 20 kg of silver, making it one of the biggest robberies in the area in recent times. DSP Deepkaran Singh, along with a team from the City police station, rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.

“We are looking into the footage CCTV cameras in the area to trace the movement of the suspects,” said the DSP.
