Addressing the media, Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said a special team led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Detective) Parminder Singh was constituted to investigate a robbery case reported on January 15, 2025. The police arrested Karanbir Singh, alias Mota, a resident of Pakhopur village in Tarn Taran district. The team recovered a stolen Swift Dzire car without registration plates, an Oppo mobile phone, a country-made pistol (.32 bore) with five live cartridges and a toy pistol from his possession.

Toora said during interrogation, the accused disclosed involvement of three accomplices — Vishal, Rajanbir, and Galu — all hailing from Tarn Taran. The gang is believed to have orchestrated a series of high-profile robberies, including snatching of an I-20 car near Boot village and stealing a Swift Dzire car in Kartarpur, Jalandhar; robbery at a medical store in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran; cash theft in Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar; and theft of parcels in Sohian Jagraon, Ludhiana.

Toora said that Inspector Jarnail Singh, in-charge, CIA staff, and ASI Charanjit Singh of the technical cell played a pivotal role in apprehending the accused. The police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining gang members.
