Reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation, the Rotary Club Phagwara Gems organised a tree plantation drive at Lala Lajpat Rai Park in Phagwara on Sunday.
The event was inaugurated by Mayor of Phagwara Municipal Corporation, Rampal Uppal, who attended as the chief guest. Assistant Commissioner Anish Bansal was present as the special guest.
Mayor Uppal planted the first sapling, officially launching the drive. Applauding the Rotary Club’s initiative, he said that in the current era of rising environmental pollution, such efforts have become critically important.
Assistant Commissioner Bansal underlined the ecological benefits of tree plantation, noting that trees play a vital role in reducing air pollution, increasing oxygen levels, maintaining the water cycle, enhancing biodiversity, and preserving ecological balance.
Club President C.A. Rakesh Chawla reaffirmed the club’s commitment to conducting large-scale plantation campaigns and stated that similar initiatives would continue in the future. He extended special thanks to Mayor Uppal and Assistant Commissioner Bansal for their support and participation.
The event was attended by several Rotarians, including I.P. Khurana, P.P. Pawan Kumar Kalra, Rajesh Kumar Batra, Paraminder Singh Kundi, Vinod Gaba, and Gautam Jain, among others.
