The Junior and Senior Punjab State Badminton Championship concluded with enthusiasm at the Raizada Hansraj Stadium on Thursday. In the men’s singles category, Shikhar Rallan from Patiala emerged champion by defeating Adhyan Kakkar of Amritsar in the final match.
In the women’s singles event, Gursimrat Kaur Chahal from Ludhiana clinched the title after a closely contested final against Inayat Gulati of Jalandhar.
Saanvi Nautiyal of Ludhiana stole the limelight by winning a triple crown, bagging titles in girls’ doubles, mixed doubles and women’s doubles. Gursimran, Manya and Mridul Jha also secured double crowns in their respective categories. Jagsher Khangura triumphed in the boys’ singles by defeating Viren Seth of Jalandhar. The youngest participant, Inayat Gulati from Jalandhar, impressed everyone by winning silver medals in both the girls’ and women’s singles categories.
PBA Honorary Secretary Ritin Khanna informed that over 350 matches were played across 10 events in the under-19 and senior categories during the four-day tournament. Vivek Modi, SDM Adampur, presided as the chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners. The champions will now represent Punjab at the upcoming National Championships in Itanagar and Vijayawada. The District Badminton Association also honoured Junior Asian Championship Bronze medalist Jagsher Khangura with a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
Final results
In the under-19 category, the girls' doubles title was won by Saanvi Nautiyal (Ludhiana) and Samridhi Bhardwaj (Jalandhar) while Manmeet Kaur (Gurdaspur) and Seeza (Sangrur) finished runners-up. The boys' doubles crown went to Aditya Sharma (Ludhiana) and Viren Seth (Jalandhar) with Smarth Bhardwaj and Zorawar Singh (both Jalandhar) finishing second.
In mixed doubles (U-19) Dhruv Dutta (Pathankot) and Saanvi Nautiyal (Ludhiana) emerged champions, while Nilesh Seth (Amritsar) and Seeza (Sangrur) were runners-up. Gursimrat Kaur Chahal (Ludhiana) captured the girls' singles title, defeating Inayat Gulati (Jalandhar) in the final and Jagsher Singh Khangura (Patiala) clinched the boys' singles crown by overcoming Viren Seth (Jalandhar).
In the senior category, the mixed doubles title went to Mridul Jha and Manya Ralhan (both Jalandhar) with Madhav Kanojia (Jalandhar) and Liza Taank (Malerkotla) as runners-up.
