Amid growing anger over unpaid salaries, healthcare workers under the National Health Mission (NHM) staged a protest at the Phagwara Civil Hospital today, burning the effigy of the Chief Minister.

The workers allege that despite repeated assurances, they have not received their salaries for the past two months and key demands raised during meetings with the mission director remain unaddressed.

Speaking at the protest, Dr Prabhjot Kaur said although several meetings have been held with the MD, no concrete action has been taken, with officials claiming the necessary files are still pending approval with the finance department.

Dr Kaur added that while the government continues to receive NHM funds, the salaries of healthcare workers are inexplicably delayed. She warned that if the pending dues are not cleared immediately, groups of five workers each would head to Ludhiana to raise their issues during the upcoming byelections.

Several others, including Dr Ankush, Dr Jatinder, Monika, Dalvir, Atma Ram and Varinder Kumar were also present during the protest.
