The Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur Safai Mazdoor Union burnt the effigy of the state government and hold a gate rally here under the leadership of Raja Hans. Sardari Lal Sharma, president and Kulwant Singh Saini, general secretary, MC Employees Union, Punjab, while addressing the rally, said they had handed over a demand letter on January 24 to which the government did not take any action.

The demands included formation of new corporations in the state and to recruit sanitation workers there. But the resolution of recruiting 450 workers is yet pending. Also the resolution regarding DC rates to the Mohalla Sanitation Committees workers is also not implemented.

Another resolution, regarding the confirmation of sewermen is also not enacted. The sanitation workers have repeatedly urged to raise sheds at the spots of their attendance, but these have not been raised too. They also demanded to raise seven posts of supervisors in the health branch of Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation to 24.

The union leaders alleged that the outsourced working employees were neither paid on time nor their EPF and ESI were deposited in time. The protesters, by holding a gate rally, took out a procession to Dhobi Ghat Chowk and burnt the effigy of the state government.

Municipal Commissioner Balbir Raj Singh assured the protesters to implement the local demands immediately and getting the Punjab Government l-evel demands implemented within 20 days.
