Sarpanch's son found dead in Sultanpur Lodhi village; 'drug overdose' suspected

According to reports, the 25-year-old had been sent to a de-addiction camp by the village panchayat a few months ago

The body of a 25-year-old man, son of the sarpanch of Masitan village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala, was found on Saturday at the village’s funeral grounds.

According to sources, the cause of death is suspected to be a drug overdose.

The deceased, identified as Sukhjinder Singh, was the only son of village sarpanch Harmesh Singh Gora. His last rites were performed on Saturday.

Sukhjinder’s mother reportedly passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to reports, he had been sent to a de-addiction camp by the village panchayat a few months ago.

Sultanpur Lodhi SHO Sonamdeep Kaur said, “We did not receive any complaint regarding the youth’s death. The incident came to light through news reports, and despite repeated attempts, the deceased’s father could not be contacted. The family also cremated the youth without informing the police.”
