In a ground-breaking initiative to promote women’s empowerment and self-reliance, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (SBS) district, under the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign, launched free driving classes for women.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Dhiman, ADC (D) Avneet Kaur and SDM Dr Akshita Gupta flagged off the training vehicle today, officially marking the commencement of the programme. This forward-thinking programme, in collaboration with Pukhraj Driving School, aims to equip young women with a vital skill that enhances their mobility, boosts their confidence and opens doors to new financial opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fostering gender equality by providing training for practical skills that empower women to lead independent lives.

Addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Avneet Kaur highlighted that mobility was a key factor in women’s empowerment. She said, “These free driving lessons will help young women gain financial independence and the confidence to navigate their lives with greater autonomy.”

Nawanshahr SDM Dr Akshita Gupta emphasised that this initiative was not just about teaching driving skills, but also about breaking social barriers and enabling women access equal opportunities in all spheres of life.

In the first phase, 16 girls will undergo professional driving training. The DC said, “The administration will encourage more young women to come forward and benefit from this empowering initiative.”

The DC said, “By helping young women acquire essential skills, the administration is not only promoting self-reliance but also paving the way for a more inclusive and progressive society.”
