As schools prepare to reopen on July 1 after the summer break, District Education Officer (DEO) Anita Sharma and Deputy DEO Lakhvir Singh have issued clear directives to school heads and in-charges to create a positive, festive atmosphere in schools to encourage maximum student attendance on the first day.
Speaking to school heads from primary, middle, high, and secondary schools, Sharma emphasised the importance of ensuring that children return to school with enthusiasm and in large numbers. “The atmosphere in schools on July 1 should feel like a celebration, so that students are excited and motivated to return. They should not feel like they are going back to the usual school routine, but rather to a welcoming and joyful environment,” she said.
In line with the “Aao School Chaliye” campaign, schools are being encouraged to decorate their premises and organise goodwill activities. Teachers and staff have been advised to plan engaging events and interactive sessions to make the first day of school a memorable experience for students.
Deputy DEO Lakhvir Singh further added that a special inspection of schools will be conducted on July 1. Inspection teams, comprising block nodal officers and block primary education officers, have been assigned to various areas. These teams will check multiple aspects, including the cleanliness of the school premises, student attendance, the quality of drinking water, and preparations for the mid-day meal.
Ahead of the reopening, school heads have been instructed to ensure proper cleaning of the school complex a day prior and to make necessary arrangements for mid-day meals. Authorities are also focusing on improving student attendance by engaging parents, school management committees, village panchayats, and local dignitaries.
The DEO stressed the importance of maintaining 100 per cent student attendance and encouraged schools to reach out to parents through various community channels. “Creating a welcoming and safe environment for students will not only boost attendance but will also strengthen the bond between schools and families,” she stated.
With coordinated efforts and enthusiastic planning, the education department aims to ensure a smooth and cheerful transition for all students on the first day after summer vacation.
