Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated Green Consumer Day with the aim to promote green consumption and encourage residents to adopt sustainable practices.

The event highlighted the importance of choosing environment-friendly products, minimising packaging and supporting items made from natural or recycled materials.

This year’s theme, “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyle”, highlighted the need to ensure that the benefits of sustainable living were accessible to all, with a special focus on protecting vulnerable and low-income consumers.

As part of the celebrations, a Project Model Competition titled “Zero Waste Challenge” was organised, in which nearly 200 students participated. Young innovators showcased creative models and projects demonstrating zero-waste practices implemented in their schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, emphasised that our actions today had a profound impact on the future. He cautioned that the prevailing throwaway culture and consumerism were severely harming the environment and accelerating climate change.

Dr Grover stressed the need to shift from a take-make-use economy to a reduce-reuse-recycle approach, or adopting a circular economy. He added that Green Consumer Day was observed to inspire eco-friendly habits with in the society and to promote sustainable manufacturing practices across all sectors from small enterprises to large corporations to ensure the nation’s sustainable development.
