Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) organised a seminar on the “Role of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism,” aimed at enhancing the skills of budding journalists in science communication.
The event saw participation from over 150 young journalists, students and faculty members from Journalism and Mass Communication departments across Punjab.
The seminar served as a platform for participants to explore emerging trends in science journalism and understand how AI is reshaping the media landscape. A radio feature contest on the theme “Climate Change: Impact and Challenges” was also held as part of the programme.
In his inaugural address, Dr Rajesh Grover, Director, PGSC, highlighted how Artificial Intelligence is transforming the domains of science, technology and communication. He noted that AI accelerates data analysis, supports advanced simulations and automates routine tasks, thereby boosting productivity and creativity.
Dr Grover also pointed out that AI is being increasingly integrated into journalism to enhance efficiency and save time. However, he cautioned about associated challenges such as algorithmic bias, data privacy issues and ethical concerns. He stressed the importance of proper training to enable journalists to use AI responsibly in news reporting.
In the radio feature contest, Sakshi Bhadola from HMV College, Jalandhar, secured the first prize. Lisha Luna and Eshita Sehgal, students of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, won the second and third prizes, respectively. Yutika Walia from GNA University, Phagwara, was awarded a consolation prize.
