Seminar on 'Holistic Health'

Jalandhar: Disha, an initiative run by the Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust, organised a seminar on ‘Holistic Health’ at Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town. This was conducted for the well-being of the staff and students. It was a live telecast on YouTube too. The resource person was Veena Gupta, a holistic healer and certified mind and wellness coach. She emphasised that for holistic health physical, mental and social wellness are important. To remain physically fit, she demonstrated the appropriate way of breathing. She said words have power, so we should avoid the use of words like ‘Less, loss and never’. She said these words are the root cause of anxiety and depression. The words — love, give, grow and learn — add positivity to life. The importance of appreciation and gratitude were focused. She motivated everyone to do mind mapping, visualisation and positive affirmations. She explained that the right choice of food and place to eat is important. According to her, the new techniques and gadgets have confined the world, but it is necessary to spend time in a group for social and individual uplift. In the end, Shally Bowry, executive director, gave a memento to the resource person. Sharmila Nakra, Deputy Director of Cultural Affairs, thanked the resource person for the fruitful and productive session.

Prof finishes Lieutenant course

To prepare the students completely for joining the NCC, an Assistant Professor of St Soldier Law College has completed a two-and-a-half-month course getting commissioned for the Lieutenant course at NCC Officer Training Academy, Gwalior. Chairman Anil Chopra and vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra congratulated Assistant Professor Neha Chhina and wished her all the best for the future. Giving information about her course, Neha said 112 people from 17 states had participated in it. They were trained in firing, various games, parades and everything necessary for the Army. She was conferred Lieutenant rank and a certificate by Director-General, NCC, Lieut Gen Gurbir Singh, Government of India. Law College Director Dr SC Sharma proudly said the Assistant Professor got alpha grade in this course which very few people can get apart from gold in badminton and volleyball, and certificate of excellence in firing, NIAP, Ex Shakti. Col NPS Toor, Commanding Officer, 2 PB Girls Battalion, NCC, Jalandhar, also expressed happiness on the achievement of Neha Chhina.

Sports trials on July 11

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya is going to organise sports trials for players on July 11 on the college ground. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen said trials for archery, athletics, gymnastics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, judo, cycling, cricket, fencing, cycling, handball, hockey, kabaddi (NS), kayaking, karate, kho-kho, shooting, Pencak Silat, rowing, rugby, softball, taekwondo, swimming, volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, wushu, etc, will be organised. She said the school provides free boarding and lodging facility, equipment, sports kit, refreshment, extra diet and total fee concession to national or international players.

School welcomes back kids

After a long summer break, children returned to schools with enthusiasm writ large on their faces. Coming to school, meeting friends and sharing memorable moments with teachers and friends brought happiness on their faces. Students of all the DIPS schools were welcomed by the teachers and principals on the first day. Fun games and other activities were organised by the teachers for the children. The principals applied tilak on young children at the gate and welcomed them into the school by giving them toffees. Teachers made different types of welcome-back posters for the children and put them on the walls. Handprints of children were taken on these posters. After this, teachers said just as the handprints of all the children are together on this poster, in the same way all of them will also stay together in the class. After this, all the students told their teachers and friends what they did during the holidays and learned new things. MD Tarwinder Singh said the children were given such an environment on the first day of school as they do not feel the burden of studies suddenly on their return to schools fter so many days. During the summer vacations, children get away from studies, so that they take some time off to come back to this environment. CEO Monica Mandotra said children were the beauty of the school. The school management always tries to give such an environment to the children so that they can easily adjust themselves in it.

10-day ‘Space Camp’ concludes

The first-ever 10-day ‘Space Camp’ was organised at Lovely Professional University (LPU) where young persons from across the country and foreign countries participated. This is one of the largest camps related to space for young kids organised in India.

Here, young minds grasped various techniques and technologies about aerodynamics, rocket designing, spacecraft, satellites and being self-reliant. More than 400 young space enthusiasts had registered for the camp, out of whom only 84 could enter the camp activities, based on the final selection criteria. They all got a prestigious chance of becoming would-be leaders and innovators in the space sector. Many of the participants were especially honoured and awarded cash for their unique deftness in understanding space. Congratulating the participants on having their own space journey of dreams, LPU Pro-Chancellor Rashmi Mittal wished all to emerge as future space leaders. Space Camp was an experience where participants re-lived their dreams of astronauts’ stardom and deep passions for space science. It focused on the basics of rocketry and learning various means that astronauts used to get to the moon, Mars, and beyond. During various workshops at the camp, participants learnt to design a satellite, fabricate remotely radio-controlled drones, and learned about intrinsic details on planets, stars and space elements. During the camp, they also experienced what it is like to walk in space through a pseudo ‘Gravity Chair’. Two participants — Amaira Mittal and Aarav Singla — shared the camp has indeed inspired all participants to get included in the next generation of space leaders by stepping in the footsteps of the great Indian astronauts like Rakesh Sharma and Kalpana Chawla.

Event on spoken English

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a free of cost summer camp on Spoken English. The summer camp was organised by PG Department of English. This course has seen the participation of 60 students from all streams. During the classes, students were taught in different modules and the modules were focused on basic grammar concepts, sentence formation, conversational skills, vocabulary building, interview skills and public speaking. The participants were also taught basic English sentence patterns & were also given tips on improving their vocabulary during the course of these classes. The students were very much appreciative of this exemplary course as they got a great platform for improving their communication skills which is the need of the hour in today’s competitive world. Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that it is a very refreshing programme amidst summer break of the students as they can utilise their time as well energy in a productive manner. She further maintained that these types of courses help in the overall development of the personality of the students. She also emphasised on the fact that success in one’s life depends upon the communication skills so that one can express himself in a good way. Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Madhumeet (Head, PG Department of English, and Dean, Department of Student Welfare) and all the resource persons for the classes and motivated them for such future endeavours.

Induction session organised

Moving a step ahead in the field of education, CT Group of Institutions introduced and conducted an induction session for the students of CT Collegiate Senior Secondary Wing at CT Institute of Higher Studies. These young students have enrolled themselves in the medical, non-medical, commerce and humanities streams. A one-week induction session was organised for these newbies where all the HOI’s and HODs deliberated presentations to let the students know about the working of all the departments and hence motivated them to make up their minds to choose a stream of their own interest. On this occasion, Chairman CT Group Charanjit Singh Channi also interacted with students and their parents. Officiating campus director Dr Anupamdeep Sharma motivated the students to achieve their goals whereas Director Research and Innovation Dr Jasdeep Kaur Dhami told the students how to be focused and get best out of this induction program. CT Group managing director Dr Manbir Singh congratulated all the students for choosing CT Group to pursue their studies and assured them of their overall development here along with academics.

‘Hone your cooking skills’

Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, conducted ‘Hone your cooking skills’ under skill enhancement classes for 10+2 students. In the class, students not only learned about how to cook delicious and healthy food but also gained knowledge about the art of presenting it artistically on the dining table.

In these classes, students were taught that the basic mantra of cooking is learning about maintaining the food’s nutritional value along with maintaining its taste. The students also learned about preparing various state-specific dishes, got tips on making appetizing street food and further gained knowledge about the recipes of quick and instant salads, sweets and snacks. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra said the purpose of conducting these cooking classes was to make the young generation acquainted with different types of cuisines of India because food is also an integral part of our culture. The principal praised the efforts of Monika Anand who taught the students with diligence and dedication.
