Phagwara, January 16
To enrol every eligible person as a voter for the SGPC polls, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today visited several villages and urged them to come forward for voter registration at the special camps to be organised at all gurdwaras of the district on January 17.
Sarangal met people in Ghurka, Goraya, Mehsampur, Mau Sahib, Talwan, Jaggo Sangha, Sidham Mutsadi, Littran and Nakodar villages and the adjoining areas. He told them to avail of maximum benefit from the camps on January 17 in all gurdwaras.
He said that Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh falls on January 17 and devotees pay obeisance in a large number at gurdwaras on that day.
The Deputy Commissioner said patwaris would remain present in all gurdwaras and collect voter registration forms. They would take enrolment forms individually from each person.
The DC said patwaris had been instructed not to collect the forms in bulk. The forms would be made available to devotees and could also be downloaded from the administration’s portal jalandhar.nic.in.
It may be mentioned here that the person has to be a Keshdhari Sikh. Those who trim or shave beard, smoke or drink alcohol cannot register themselves as a voter.
