SGPC’s light & sound show for Guru’s 350th martyrdom day

Four days after a light and sound show to mark the occasion of the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur organised by the state government got washed away due to rain and thunderstorm, another similar show was held at the same venue, Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, here on Saturday evening.

Today’s show titled, ‘Tilak Janjhu Rakha Prabh Taaka’, was organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the local gurdwaras of Jalandhar. Recently re-elected SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, SGPC member Kulwant S Manan, ex-MLA Sarabjeet Singh Makkar, various Nihang jathas and devotees attended the show in large numbers.

The show started after a Gatka performance by the girls of Mata Sahib College and Kirtan by a Sikh jatha. The light and sound show had scenes from the birth of Guru Gobind Singh at Patna, tyranny of the Mughal emperors, the daring decision of Guru Gobind Singh to ask his father to sacrifice his life to save the Kashmiri Hindus and the beheading of the Ninth Guru at Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

Other than the light and sound effects, enactment of the scenes too was being done on the stage. The enactment was interspersed by Ardas and recital of hymns of the Gurus. The show was produced and directed by Harbaksh Singh Latta of Punjab Art Theatre.
