Senior state vice-president Inderjit Karwal alleged that a “lenient approach” by the authorities has emboldened offenders.
Karwal claimed that following recent cases in Patiala, Phagwara and Amritsar, a fresh incident was reported from Bhim Nagar in Hoshiarpur, where Hindu organisations allegedly found beef stored in several houses. He said local residents had been reporting suspected smuggling activities for a long time, but no action was taken until community members themselves inspected the area.
Criticising Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Karwal said, “On one hand, the CM bows before deities in temples, and on the other, he remains silent on punishing those involved in cow slaughter, which is against Sanatan culture.”
The Shiv Sena leader urged the Central Government to declare the cow as India’s national animal and enact a law prescribing the death penalty for those convicted of cow slaughter.
Karwal also expressed concern over religious conversions and changing demography in Punjab, alleging that suspicious outsiders were settling in the state without scrutiny.
He demanded that authorities in each district investigate such individuals and take strict legal action against anyone involved in unlawful activities.
