Sidhu attends football tourney in memory of Atwal
Congress leader and veteran cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu attended the second day of the annual football tournament in Phillaur, organised in memory of former minister Gurbinder Singh Atwal. The three-day event was held on the grounds of Government School (Boys) Phillaur with the support of expatriate Punjabis and organised by the Football Academy Phillaur.
Sidhu, who had a close association with Atwal, recalled their past meetings alongside other political leaders like Navtej Cheema and SS Dullo during the final phase of Congress’ previous tenure. Sidhu expressed his joy over Rajpal Singh Atwal, Atwal’s son, continuing his father’s legacy.
The tournament features various sporting events, including open football, under-16 village-level football, basketball, kabaddi national style under-19, and wrestling. The winning football team gets a cash prize of Rs 75,000, with the second prize of Rs 41,000.
