'Smuggler' held with 14 boxes of illegal liquor
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has arrested a man for smuggling liquor and seized 14 boxes from his possession.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the arrest was made following a tip-off regarding Suraj Chander, a resident of New Dashmesh Nagar, who was allegedly involved in selling illicit liquor near Nehar Pulli Kot Siddique.
Acting swiftly, a police team intercepted Chander who was travelling in a white car. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 14 boxes of illegal liquor carrying various labels.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at Division Number 2 Police Station.
The Commissioner of Police confirmed that further investigations were underway to determine the extent of the smuggling network and possible links to other illegal operations.
He said the police had intensified efforts to crack down on the illegal liquor trade in the city, with regular raids and strict monitoring.
"Residents are requested to report any suspicious activities related to smuggling to help curb such crimes", he said.
