Special girdawari begins in flood-affected areas of Kapurthala

Special girdawari commenced today, September 13, in the flood-affected areas of Kapurthala as floodwaters recede. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has appointed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) as nodal officers to oversee the process.

During a meeting with officials from various departments, Panchal reiterated that the district administration is working on a war footing to ensure the swift rehabilitation of the affected areas.

The floods have impacted over 75 villages and 16,000 acres of farmland, with approximately 40,000 acres of crops—mainly paddy—being affected. Over 90 per cent of the damaged crops belong to the paddy variety.

Following state government guidelines, each Patwari has been assigned three villages for conducting the Special girdawari. Patwaris will submit daily reports to the SDMs, who will then forward the evaluations to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Revenue department officials have been directed to complete the Special girdawari process as quickly as possible. They have also been instructed to notify villagers in advance through the Munadi (public announcements) to ensure that no flood victim is left out of the compensation process.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioner has directed municipal corporations, councils, and nagar panchayats to arrange temporary clean drinking water tankers in areas facing water contamination due to the floods.

Officials from the Public Works Department and Mandi Board have been asked to visit the flood-affected regions and prioritise repairs to damaged roads, addressing transportation issues for the affected residents.

The Animal Husbandry Department has also been tasked with deploying additional veterinary doctors to intensify livestock health checks and treatments. Teams will visit homes to ensure the proper care of animals in the flood-hit areas.
