Special kids show their skills in sports

St Joseph’s Convent School celebrated the Young Athletes Sports Festival in association with the Special Olympics Bharat. Students of Udaan School, Prayas School, Saath School, Durga Das Special School and Chanan Vocational Centre participated in the event.

As many as 65 students, supported by 15 coaches, from these institutions participated in the event.

In 50 m race, Pooja, Keshav, Vansh and Jatin won medals. Sweety and Seema got prizes in the hurdle race. Samarth and Ayush won medals in football. In standing jump, Mohit, Navneet and Duggu won medals. In Soft Ball throw, Arshdeep Singh, Eliza and Ekamjot Singh won prizes.

Kartarpur SHO Pushp Bali and his wife presided over the ceremony. School principal Sister Rosmi started the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp and administering an oath to students.

Young athletes were given appreciation letters, medals, trophies and cash prizes. The stage was conducted by event coordinator Rekha Kashyap. Special school in charge Sister Vimal thanked all present.

Speaking on the occasion, Rachna, mother of seven-year-old Pranav, a student of St Joseph’s Convent School, said: “There is a positive impact of the festival on my son. He is able to express himself better now. And it is also resulting in a positive growth. The programme has brought a beautiful transition in my child.”
