Special sanitation drive in Phagwara from Aug 19 to 23

The government is set to launch a state-level special sanitation drive across cities from August 19 to 23.

Phagwara Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Anupam Kaler said a week-long campaign would be conducted in Phagwara to remove garbage vulnerable points (GVP) and promote effective waste management. During the campaign, the MC would undertake a series of activities aimed at cleaning the city and raising public awareness.

She said on August 19 and 20, efforts will be focused on removing GVPs from various areas of the city, lifting waste from wards and beautifying these regions. Warning boards will also be installed in cleaned GVP areas to discourage the dumping of garbage. On the next two day, dry waste, particularly plastic bottles and bags, would be collected from streets, alleys, green belts and transported to material recovery facilities (MRFs) for recycling. Finally, on August 23, the MC will distribute organic compost to the public through special camps.

Kaler appealed to Phagwara residents to actively participate in the five-day drive. She urged citizens to connect with their respective sanitary inspectors and community facilitators working under the Swachh Bharat Mission to get involved in the campaign and ensure their neighbourhoods remain clean. In a meeting with municipal officials, including Joint Commissioner Kulpreet Singh, SE Rajinder Chopra and other senior officials, Kaler issued necessary directions to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
