A high-speed overtaking manoeuvre led to a major road accident on the Phagwara–Jalandhar highway on Sunday, leaving the car involved in the crash completely totaled. The incident occurred when the car, traveling from Phagwara towards Jalandhar, attempted to squeeze between two moving buses.
Eyewitnesses reported that the car first collided with a bus belonging to the Libra transport service. The impact caused the bus driver to temporarily lose control of the vehicle. As the car continued moving, it struck a second bus traveling ahead, resulting in a double collision that severely damaged the car.
Despite the intensity of the crash, the car’s driver survived with only minor injuries, according to initial reports. The bus drivers, who were also involved in the incident, described the sequence of events, with the first bus driver stating that the car attempted to overtake between the two buses. “The car brushed against my bus firs, and when I lost balance and tried to regain control, the car had already moved ahead and hit another bus,” he explained.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and have recorded statements from all three drivers involved. An investigation is ongoing to determine who was responsible for the incident. “Action will be taken against whoever is found guilty based on the facts,” a police officer stated.
The accident led to partial traffic disruptions as the damaged vehicles were cleared from the road. Authorities have called for caution, urging drivers to avoid dangerous overtaking, particularly on crowded highways, as a reminder of the growing risks posed by speeding and careless driving. No fatalities were reported in the incident.
