Spl DGP Shukla reviews security ahead of R-Day
Special DGP, Law and Order, Punjab, Arpit Shukla, visited Jalandhar on Wednesday to assess security arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations.
Accompanied by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and other senior officers, the Special DGP directed law enforcement to intensify vigilance.
During his visit, DGP Shukla inspected sensitive areas across the city, with a focus on crowded markets, malls and public venues. He also conducted a detailed review at police station, Rama Mandi, emphasising preparedness and adherence to safety protocols. Shukla urged officers to foster public trust by maintaining a cooperative and approachable demeanor.
In Gurrah Mandi near Basti Adda Chowk, he interacted with kite vendors, advising them against selling hazardous Chinese plastic kite strings. He warned that strict action would be taken against violators and encouraged shopkeepers to report illegal sales.
To bolster security measures, a comprehensive audit of police infrastructure was conducted. Enhancements include zig-zag barricades at critical points, expanded CCTV coverage, upgraded alarm systems and bulletproof enclosures for vulnerable spots. Additional police checkpoints have been deployed to monitor vehicle movement, aiming to intercept potential threats and illegal activities.
Traffic management plans have been implemented to ensure the smooth public movement during the celebrations. Special measures at traffic hotspots aim to prevent disruptions while maintaining a steady flow of vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, highlighted various community engagement initiatives designed to educate the public about safety protocols and encourage vigilance. He said awareness campaigns urging citizens to report suspicious activities, contributing to the city's collective security were being held.
“These robust security measures underscore the police’s commitment to public safety,” said CP Jalandhar. “Our coordinated efforts across all levels of law enforcement aim to ensure a peaceful Republic Day celebration for everyone", he added.
