A talent hunt programme has been conducted by the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) with the aim of encouraging the youth for sports at the grassroots level. Under this, the sports trials of budding sportspersons of Jalandhar were conducted at Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar.

Boys and girls (12 to 14 years) from Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and SBS Nagar participated in the trials.

The convener of the programme and Maharaja Ranjit Singh awardee, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon expressed gratitude towards the district administration for the support regarding these trials.

Kahlon said the talent identification programme is being conducted under the guidance of Onkar Singh, Secreatry General, Asian Cycling Confederation and Maninderpal Singh, Secretary General, CFI, in the whole of Punjab, the main purpose of which is to connect the youth with sports, especially cycling, in Punjab.

“Selected youngsters would be sent to the academies of the CFI, where their accommodation, food, training, sports equipment will be provided free of cost,” he added.

He further said the budding sportspersons from all the districts of Punjab are being selected through trials and the selected players would be sent for the final trials in Delhi.

In these trials, the sportspersons had passed the standing broad jump and high jump (vertical) and race of 1,600 meters for boys and 800 meters for girls.

He said that no stone would be left unturned for the uplift of the sport in the state.

Free training for selected athletes

Selected youngsters will be sent to the academies of the CFI, where their food, training, sports equipment and accommodation will be provided free of cost
