St Joseph's Boys' School, Defence Colony, honoured its ISC and ICSE toppers in the school premises.



Jalandhar: St Joseph’s Boys’ School, Defence Colony, honoured its ISC and ICSE toppers in the school premises. Raman Arora (MLA Jalandhar Central) presided over the function and was welcomed with a token of love. Father Antony Thuruthiyil, director of the school, welcomed him and toppers along with the parents. Sister Detty, principal, and Sister Dona, vice principal, joined them to honour the first position holder in Class XII Gautam Jojra for scoring 96.25 per cent marks. Anant Bedi, who stood first in Class X by scoring 97.60 per cent marks, also received a special commendation. A prayer dance was prepared by the girls under supervision of Nidhi. The welcome song was prepared by school choir under the guidance of Vinod. Head Boy Deepanshu , Head Girl Simmi , Vice-Head Boy Aryan Sharma and all other members of school parliament showed great enthusiasm in the honouring ceremony.

Presentation on violent games

Mayor World School hosted Jalandhar Sahodaya Inter-School Powerpoint Presentation for the students of Grade IX to XII, giving thoughtful platform for the students to present their views on the topic ‘Are violent games appropriate entertainment for teenagers?’. Eloquent speakers from nearly 40 schools of in and around Jalandhar city participated in the event showcasing their expert IT skills and convincingly confident oration. The judges for the event were Aarti Vij, head, department of computer and Tanupriya, head, department of English. The students had to present six to eight slides exhibiting their creativity and views on the topic. The time limit for the presentation was 4 to 5 minutes. Well-curated slides topped up with effective demonstration and proof left the viewers spellbound. Vanshaj Sharma and Vipul Kalia of Woodland Overseas School bagged the first position followed by Tanush Shoor and Abhimanyu Rathour from Police DAV Public School who bagged the second position. CJS School participants—Karanveer Singh and Ishaan Singh bagged the third position. Swami Sant Das School participants— Hriday Sharma and Narinder Kaur Virdi, secured a consolation prize for their captivating presentation. The competition was presided over by vice chairperson Neerza Mayor and Principal Harjeet Kaur Ghuman.

Students create Spiritual ambience

The students of Cantt-Jandiala Road and Kapurthala Road campus of Innocent Hearts School created a spiritual ambience by singing melodious bhajans and shabads. Mothers and grandmothers of children were specially invited on the occasion. The students of grades V and VI sang ‘O,Palanhare, Nirgun O Nyare, to worship the almighty God. The children sang the hymn ‘Payo Ji, Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo’, remembering the virtuous God. The children meditated upon the omniscient God by singing the shabad ‘Vinu Bolyan Sab Kuch Jaanda’. They remembered the supreme power by singing the hymn ‘Ihi Naam Hai Adhara’. Harleen Gulria (incharge primary and middle wing) and Gurmeet Kaur (coordinator Innokids) were present at Kapurthala Road and Cantt-Jandiala Road campuses, respectively. They motivated mothers to teach their kids to be grateful to God for the blessings. In this way the child learns to thank God which nurtures the feeling of reverence towards the elders. Sharmila Nakra, Deputy Director Cultural Affairs of Innocent Hearts Group, appreciated the efforts of the children and said the purpose of conducting this type of activity was to inculcate ethical and cultural values in the children.

DSP organises investiture ceeremony

Delhi Public School appointed the student council members and delegated their duties towards the progress of the school. The Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2022-23 was organised with all its grandeur in the school premises. Principal, KMV College, Atima Sharma, was welcomed by the school Head Boy. The auspicious occasion was graced by Vasudha Thakur, Principal Ritu Kaul, the school’s alumnus and guest of honour Surbhi Singla, parents, students and teachers. The beginning of the solemn and prestigious investiture ceremony was marked by the welcome address of the Head Boy followed by the presentation of the sapling. The student council listened to Principal Ritu Kaul’s motivational speech with pride and a sense of achievement surging in their hearts. She congratulated and urged them to shoulder the responsibilities with clear conscience and setting the right attitude to work. The students were awarded flags to commemorate the day.

State public school celebrates Teej

Students of State Public School, Shahkot, celebrated Teej under the guidance of president Dr Narotam Singh and vice-president Dr Gagandeep Kaur. First position in solo song competition was bagged by Kavia from Kalpana Chawala House, second position was bagged by Armanjit Kaur from Helen Keller House and Somalpreet Kaur from Mother Teresa House grabbed the third position. In group song performance from Class VI to VIII, Mother Teresa House grabbed the first position, Amrita Pritam House bagged the second position and third position was secured by Helen Keller House. In group song performance, from classes IX to XII, Kalpana Chawla attained first position, Amrita Pritam obtained second position and third position was grabbed by Helen Keller. The performance of giddha won the applause of the audience. School Principal Kanwar Neel Kamal guided students about the importance of folk songs and folk dances. The KG wing of State Public School organised the sand painting activity. The activity was organised to teach them to explore texture and colour mixing. The children made various types of sand paintings under the guidance of teachers. The school Principal congratulated all and appreciated their efforts.

KVS Regional Sports Meet commences

The 51st KVS Regional Sports Meet (boys) under- 14,17and 19 commenced at Lovely Professional University.The chief guest, Hardeep Singh Grewal, hockey Olympian, inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. He motivated the students to continue participating in sports activities to stay fit. Day two of the ongoing sports meet witnessed some exciting games conducted in the indoor and outdoor stadiums of Lovely Professional University. As many as 921 participants from 56 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the Chandigarh region are taking part in kabaddi, handball, basketball, kho-kho, boxing, judo, archery, etc. The boys displayed their sports prowess in different events. In boxing U-19, Kunal of KV Suranussi marked his victory defeating Vivek of KV3 Pathankot. In handball U-17, Karambir Singh, Principal, KV No.4, Rosy Sharma, in-charge Principal, KVNo. 2 and Meena Kumari, in-charge Principal, Jalandhar Cantt. No 3, witnessed the various competitions.

Academic retreat for teachers

The session 2022-23 began with a two-day academic retreat for all teachers organised by IQAC Trinity Group of Institutions, Jalandhar. Father Prithvi Raj Philips, media educator, motivational speaker and a multilinguist from Jyoti Book and Media Centre, Maqsoodan and Dr Thomas Lobo, management consultant of St John Technical and Education Campus and management advisor to TGI were the resource persons. The programme started with a devotional hymn and lighting of the lamp ceremony. Ajay Prashar, Principal of the college, welcomed the resourse persons, esteemed guests and teachers with his words and bouquets of flowers. On the first day of this academic retreat, the resource person Phillips elaborated on the topic “Empowering the teacher for the new age pedagogy”. He gave tips to improve the teaching skills of teachers and gave information about various skills needed in the field of education. Father Jose Palakuzha, chairman, Diocesan Board of Education, Peter Kavumpuram, director, Trinity Group of Institutions, Dr Sunil Kumar Arora, Principal, Trinity Institute of Management and Technology, sisters Pooja Gaba and all staff members were present.

Talent Hunt contest at HMV Collegiate

HMV Collegiate Sr Sec School, Jalandhar, organised Talent Hunt Competition Pratibha Khoj 2022. Students of SSC-I and SSC-II utilised this opportunity and showcased their talent pertaining to multiple facets ranging from declamation contest, poem recitation, sound of music, poster and collage making contest, dance, mehndi, art & rangoli competition to quiz contest. The students eloquently expressed their oratory skills on the relevant topics of ‘Growth of robotics’, ‘Role of government to tackle the problem of global warming’, ‘Impact of social media on youngsters’, ‘Post Covid world’ and in poem recitation they recited poems spontaneously. In declamation contest, Jahnavi SSC 2 arts bagged the first position, Bhuvnesh-SSC-2 medical got the second position and Khushi SSC 1 medical bagged the third position. In poem recitation, Palak of SSC 2 arts, Kashish of SSC 2 arts, Jahnavi of SSC 2 arts secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. In dance competition, Mansi, Pahulpreet Kaur Bedi and Kajal secured the first, second and third position, respectively. In solo dance performance, Manvi Bhardwaj and Radhika Chauhan received consolation prizes. In group dance, Bhangra licious group stood first, Punjaban Kudiyan got the second position,and Punjabi Muteyara attained the third position. The consolation prize was given to Power Grooves. In Bollywood songs category, Angel, Manisha and Arshiya secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. In folk songs category, Madhu grabbed the first, Yogita second and Ritu third position. In duet song category, Sandeep and Angel bagged the first position, and Riya and Yogita secured the second position. The special prize was given to Muskaan for her devotional singing. In rangoli competition, Simran and Navneet secured the first, Bhoomika and Zeenat and Karishma and Liza jointly secured the second, and Arshpreet and Amrita secured the third position. In poster- making competition, Japreet, Alvis and Zeenat, Chhavi, and Komal Banga secured the first, second, third and forth positions, respectively. Manmet stood first and Muskaan second in collage making competition. Sehajpreet attained the first and Moully Verma grabbed the second position in best out of waste contest. In mind blogger (quiz competition) Sukhpreet Kaur achieved the first position and Palak secured the second position.

MGN School elects student council

Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2022-23 was organised on MGN Public School Kapurthala where Prefect Body of Student Council was elected to involve themselves in the leadership role and take an oath to deliver their duties. The council members, while marching into the gathering were brimming with hope and devotion. On the solemn occasion, the proud parents of the elected student council members were also present to witness the occasion. The students were happy to receive the prestigious badges and sashes from the chief guest, Col Vishal Opal, manager RS Mehta, coordinators and house masters. The prefect council members administered the oath of service to the school with the greatest possible responsibility. On the occasion, Sehajbir Singh and Mokshita Chauhan were given the responsibility to act as the Head boy, and the Head girl, respectively.

Five-day faculty programme held

Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus organised a five-day faculty development programme on development of innovative rural entrepreneurship models. The FDP was sponsored by the Rural Development Department of National Institute of Teachers’ Training & Research (NITTR), Chandigarh. The coordinator for the FDP was Dr Hemant Kumar Vinayak, associate professor, NITTR, Chandigarh. In the valedictory session, Arvind Dhumal, president, Laghu Udyog Bharti, was the resource person. Dhumal highlighted the role of Gramin Shilpi Udyog in the establishment of rural development models. He said they were working to encourage people in the rural area to establish their businesses and take their products to the world market. The resource persons for this 5-day FDP included Anurag Arora, CEO, MINK Organics, delivered a talk on the development of innovative projects—challenges, marketing and customer development. Amarjit Singh Bhangu elucidated how to develop innovative poultry and organic farming and marketing model. Shubhwant Kaur of the Punjab Fisheries Department, delivered a talk on establishment and development of fisheries ponds. Rupsi Garg, Associate Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, highlighted the significance of traditional rural technologies for spinning and weaving. Dr Pardeep Arora, Associate Professor, delivered a talk on technology entrepreneurship. Dr Rajesh Bagga, Director, AIMETC, thanked the resource persons for their expert views on different dimensions of rural entrepreneurship.

Govt school holds Annual Function

Government Primary Smart School, Basti Gujan, Block West 2, Jalandhar, celebrated its annual function here today. The occasion was marked by the presence of councillor Jaspal, Rashmi Vij, Kavita Vij and Rama Chabbra, respected teachers of Police DAV School. The Police DAV Students’ Welfare Club donated 30 benches and 30 chairs. Students were encouraged by prizes given by the club. The initiative was taken by the school head teacher Gurvinder Kaur (state awardee) and staff members.

International Tiger Day Celebrated

Eklavya School observed International Tiger Day on the school campus. Children did various activities to celebrate this day. International Tiger Day is celebrated every year on July 29 to make people aware of the dangers and problems faced by tigers around the globe. The cutting down of trees which causes loss of habitat, illegal trading and hunting are some of the prime factors behind the declining population of the tigers. Tigers are unfortunately the species that are nearing extinction. Students made beautiful posters on the topic ‘Save Wifd Life’ and ‘Their Survival is in Our Hands’. Pre- primary students did colouring activities on ‘Tiger Face Colouring Sheet’. School co-ordinators Bhawna Bhatt and Rita shared that on January 18, 2021, two tigers were relocated from Corbett National Park to Rajaji National Park, Dehradun.This was done by WWF India, Uttarakhand Forest Department, and National Tiger Conservation Authority, to populate the tiger reserve for restoration of the species. School chairman JK Gupta and director Seema Handa talked about 13 tiger-ranged countries which are doing their best to conserve the tiger species. School Principal Komal Arora said that WWF in different countries was taking strict actions against the illegal trading and use of tigers for human requirements for raising awareness globally and fulfilling our goals of increasing their population.
