Jalandhar, April 1
Members of the Punjab Roadways/Punbus/ PRTC Contract Workers Union have announced that they will keep the bus stands of the state shut for two hours from 10 am to 12 noon on April 3.
Employees led by Resham Gill, president of the union, also announced that the employees would not ply state-run buses for three days from April 6 to 8. They said they would gather outside the Mohali bus stand on April 8 and then move towards the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take up their long pending demands of regularisation of staff.
Gill said the employees of the Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC had been working on a contractual basis for about 16-17 years. They said, "On July 1 last year, CM Mann had held a meeting with us and promised us that our jobs would be regularised. Nine months have passed but there has been no headway over the assurance given to us. No provision has been made regarding regularisation of our jobs even in the recent Budget".
Gill added, "All previous CMs, including Parkash Badal and Capt Amarinder Singh, had also made promises to them but so far no government has come in our support. If the AAP government also does not fulfil our demand, we shall be proceeding with intensifying our stir starting this week."
