As part of the World Environment Day campaign, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) organised a street play at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Interstate Bus Terminal to raise awareness about plastic pollution.

The play creatively spotlighted the harmful effects of single-use plastics on the environment, water sources, and wildlife. Using drama and storytelling, performers urged people to shift towards sustainable alternatives like jute bags, metal containers and reusable products.

The performers urged the public to reconsider their consumption habits and opt for sustainable alternatives such as cloth and jute bags, metal or glass containers and reusable products.

Officials from PPCB said the main objective of the event was to bring the issue of plastic waste to the forefront of public consciousness by using a format that was both entertaining and educational.

“Street plays are a powerful medium to reach people directly, especially in public spaces. We want citizens to understand that their everyday choices make a big difference,” a PPCB official said.

The initiative included the distribution of cloth bags to passersby to encourage practical action. Many spectators stopped to watch the performance and expressed a willingness to reduce their plastic usage.

With World Environment Day on June 5, the PPCB plans to hold similar events across the region to promote responsible consumer behavior and sustainable living.
