Stretch from Nakodar Chowk-Workshop Chowk a nightmare for commuters

Commuters in Jalandhar are facing severe hardships as the road from Nakodar Chowk to Workshop Chowk remains dug up for months due to the prolonged surface water project. The incomplete work has created traffic bottlenecks and civic chaos across the city.

This stretch, lined with restaurants, markets, schools, and hospitals, should have been prioritized with proper sanitation measures. Instead, commuters endure dust-laden air, traffic snarls, and health hazards daily. The situation worsens during rain, turning the dug-up roads into waterlogged messes.

Kapurthala Chowk, a critical junction with several hospitals nearby, is particularly dangerous. Rocks and uneven surfaces damage vehicles, while dust soils commuters’ clothes within minutes. The nearby MGN School intersection becomes a nightmare during rush hour as hundreds navigate through rubble and congestion.

Deepak, a regular commuter, shares: "Travelling here is a nightmare. The bad road has made life miserable for months. Rocks and bumps have damaged my vehicle, and during rains, we wade through deep water. Two-wheelers are covered in dust by the time we reach our destination. The work should have been completed in a time-bound manner."

Other stretches, including Chick Chick Chowk and the road from Nakodar Chowk to Ravidas Chowk, remain dug up, forcing residents to use barely half the road.

Harjinder Singh Lada, Councillor (Ward 48) and Chairman B&R, said: "The project was delayed due to repeated rains. Pipe-laying work between Nakodar Chowk and Kapurthala Chowk is complete, and linking will be done within a day or two. Road laying will begin within a week. We are prioritizing pending stretches, and work will start on several this week."
